Happy Anniversary, Prince of Peace! This Sunday, August 18th, is the 28th anniversary of the dedication of our current parish church. It was on this day in 1996 that our current church was blessed and dedicated by Archbishop Keleher. Concelebrants were Fr. Charles Andalikiewicz, first pastor of POP; Fr. George Bertels, church-building pastor of POP; Fr. Frank Burger, the pastor at the time of the dedication; and Fr. Jerry Volz, who was an associate pastor at the time. Previous to this dedication, we had used what is now the gym as the temporary church. The new church (our current church) was described as follows in the Mass of Dedication worship aid:
“Reflecting the conceptual ideals developed during Vatican II of the early 1960s, the new Prince of Peace Church takes advantage of contemporary structural design to build a worship space of over 13,000 square feet, completely free of interior columns. The fan shaped seating arrangement permits seating nearly 1,200 worshipers within eighteen rows of pews….” It goes on to describe in detail our church’s features.
Our church has served us for 28 years and continues to do so well! But, as buildings age and needs of people change, we are considering some renovations to the church along with some possibilities too for the rest of our facilities. I need your input on this, and if you haven’t had a chance yet, this weekend we will have in-pew surveys to get your thoughts. Thank you for your help!
Thank you so much to all who have supported POP over the years. All that we have here is because of you. God has provided through you. May God bless POP and all of you on this our church anniversary!
Peace,
Fr. Greg
